What should my LDL cholesterol be?

There is no single number for everyone. Your LDL goal depends on your cardiovascular risk, and your cardiologist sets it.

LDL goals by risk (Dr. Rebeca Granada's criteria)

RiskLDL
Very highless than 55 mg/dL
Highless than 70 mg/dL
Moderateless than 100 mg/dL
Lowless than 116 mg/dL

Why your goal may differ from the lab's

The reference value printed on the lab report is general. Your personal goal may be lower depending on your history, other tests and your family.

How to reach your goal

Diet, physical activity and, when your cardiologist recommends it, treatment. Never start or change a treatment on your own.

This does not replace a medical visit. If these symptoms sound familiar, see a cardiologist.
